Marilyn wears the [William Travilla] dress to receive an award from Photoplay magazine in March 1953 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. She is named “Fastest Rising Star of 1952,” and as has happened in the past, her choice of attire overshadows the event.
The gown is well known to Monroe fans as she wore it in a stunning series of color portraits that are some of her most famous. It is in knife-pleated gold lame, with a halted neckline and style lines that are somewhat Egyptian. The entire gown was made from “one complete circle of fabric.”
