She had only a bit part in Love Happy, but the studio sent her to New York to promote it anyway, paying her $100 a week. They first put her in a huge hotel suite for interviews, but that night she was quickly moved to a tiny room.
”I didn’t care,” she recalled. “They forgot to cancel room service, so I kept ordering caviar. Even caviar for breakfast. That’s what I remember about New York that first time: caviar for breakfast.” A few years later she returned, and every morning sat in a cafe in Grand Central State, sipping coffee, alone.
